Michelle + Austin Mullen
Don’t know what gear to have for photographing weddings? I’ve got you.
My very first wedding I ever photographed alone was Michelle and Austin’s back in September of 2018.
Michelle has been my hair-stylist for years, so when she asked me to photograph her special day I almost died from excitement. Mind you, I had only photographed a few weddings as a second shooter before then. I made sure she was well-aware of my skill level. She still trusted me to do it.
It was so much fun, and I really learned so much about how to be better prepared for future weddings. These guys took a chance with me, and they love their wedding photos still to this day.
As a wedding photographer, you really need to make sure you have proper gear and lighting equipment (and tons of back up batteries for your gear)! You want to make sure you’re using a dual slot camera body juuuust in case one of the cards corrupts or something crazy. It happens, don’t think it won’t happen to you. I personally use the Canon 5DMIV. Its amazing, I love it. You want to make sure you have extra cards and some with a lot of space. You can’t sit there and try to shoot an 8 hour wedding day on an 8gb card. I mean you could, but it would be rough. I make sure to use a 128 gb SD card. It might be a little extreme, but I always say better safe than sorry.
Another thing you will want to use especially after the wedding, is an external hard drive. I use the My Passport 5 TB. Back up your images immediately, before you do ANYTHING. Strange things happen with technology, so you wanna make sure you don’t lose those images.
I could go on an on for hours about the specific lenses and stuff I use, but I don’t want to bore you to tears. SO Check out this link I created on Amazon. I will be adding as I go and find more awesome equipment.
